The Center provides the highest-quality, research-backed curricular programs that teachers have trusted for decades. Our primary curricular programs are We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution and Project Citizen.

The Center’s flagship civic education program, We the People is a complimentary curriculum for elementary, middle, and high school students covering the history and principles of constitutional democracy in the United States.
We the People culminates with simulated congressional hearings where students testify before a panel of judges acting as members of Congress. In addition to state competitions across the country, every spring, the Center hosts the We the People National Finals and National Invitational for high school and middle school students in the Washington, D.C., area.

Project Citizen provides a practical first-hand approach to learning about our complex system of government and how to monitor and influence it. Through our curriculum, students work together to research their community and discover problems to address. Then, students identify solutions in the form of policy that require government involvement.
Students also have the opportunity to display their research and policy suggestions through showcases. These are a way for students to show their research and present their policy solutions to their classroom and community.

About

CCE LogoThe Center for Civic Education is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating an informed and thoughtful citizenry committed to democratic principles and actively engaged in the practice of democracy. We do this primarily through our flagship programs, We the People and Project Citizen, but we also provide high-quality, inquiry-driven curricular programs that bring civic learning to life. The Center additionally equips educators with professional learning that builds confidence and capacity to teach civics with depth and relevance, unlocks students’ civic agency by creating opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, and share their voices through simulated hearings and other public forums. These initiatives build a national community committed to strengthening civic understanding and participation for all and root everything in decades of research and evidence. Learn more.
