  • explain the purposes of government in the Preamble to the Constitution and
  • describe at least three responsibilities everyone has for making our government work well.

Lesson Terms

blessings of liberty
The words liberty and freedom mean the same thing. The blessings of liberty are the good things about being free. For example, you are free to have any friends you would like to have. You are free to tell other people what you think. You are also free to hear and learn from other people. These freedoms help you to have a better life than you would if you did not have them. Imagine what it would be like if you were not free to choose your own friends, you were not free to say what you think, or you were not free to learn from others.
