In this lesson, you will learn a very simple definition of democracy. It was made in a speech by Abraham Lincoln, who was one of our most famous presidents.

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States. Many people think he was one of our best presidents. He helped to keep our country from dividing into two countries during the Civil War. He also helped to end slavery.

Lincoln, Abraham (1809-1865 CE)
Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States. In his Gettysburg Address he declared the aim of preserving a "nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."
