Remembering Charles N. Quigley, Founder of the Center for Civic Education
The Center for Civic Education and our colleagues around the world today mourn the passing of the Center’s founder, Charles N. Quigley, a man who worked for over 50 years to create informed and engaged citizens committed to democracy and the rule of law. His efforts and those of the organization he founded have reached an estimated 42 million students and 440,000 educators around the world since 1965, including at least 30 million students in the United States.
The Center for Civic Education has been carrying forward Chuck’s legacy by continuing to bring authentic civic learning to students and teachers across the country through the We the People and Project Citizen programs and by sharing resources with partners around the globe in the Civitas International Programs. We remain determined in our commitment to ensuring that a 21st-century civic and constitutional education is available to all. The Center family will continue this critical work for many generations to come.
