civic life The public life of citizens; that which is concerned with a citizen's own interests and the common affairs and interests of his or her community and nation.
civic participation Taking part in formal political processes and community activities outside of government.
constitutional principle An essential idea contained in the Constitution. For example, the idea that no branch of government should have a monopoly on power.
monitor To keep watch over something.
political action Any organized attempt to influence the political process, from lobbying legislators to seeking the election or defeat of particular candidates.
social action Attempts by groups or individuals to change society using a variety of means.
