Oregon's Civil Rights Legacy

This year's Summer Institute will engage Oregon teachers around the legacy of discrimiation and Civil Rights in the state. The Institute will include a historical bus tour of sites in the Portland area that trace the evolution of discriminatory practices and civil rights changes in the region. Scholars will focus on the 14th Amendment's application in Oregon, Oregon's history with white supremacy and hate groups, and Tribal law and civil rights history. Strategies taught will include We the People hearings, Mock Trial, digital resourcing, and other relevant practices for today's Oregon teachers.
